Native American Heritage Month continues with Fawn Douglas, artist and activist
Fawn has been a driving force in Southern Nevada regarding the need to change Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day.
Fawn Douglas, a member of the Las Vegas Paiute tribe graduated from UNLV with a B.A. in Art, Painting and Drawing.
As an artist Fawn works in mixed media, print, pastel, spray paint, oil paint and ceramics. Some of her murals can be found in the city of Las Vegas and the Paiute Indian Reservation. Her art has been displayed at multiple exhibitions, including “Native American Visions”, a collaboration of Native American visual artists featured at Las Vegas City Hall.
As an activist, Fawn is a lead organizer who pushed petitions in support of Standing Rock. She led the group, “We Stand with Standing Rock” in Las Vegas rallies. These rallies helped raise money for the Standing Rock protest. Fawn went to the Standing Rock camp to deliver the donations and presented the Las Vegas Paiute flag in support, with members of her tribal council. In addition,
